STAFFA FAREWELLED: FROM WINLESS BEGINNINGS TO STABLE STAR
Saturday, 28 Mar 2026

In racing, not every story begins with promise — but the best ones are written with patience, grit, and a whole lot of heart. Few embody that more than Staffa, whose remarkable journey has come to a close with her retirement from racing.
Arriving at Holly Williams Racing as a 10-start maiden who had never troubled the placings, Staffa gave little indication of what was to come. But under the careful guidance of the team — and, as trainer Holly Williams puts it, “with love and care, but mostly love” — she transformed into a consistent and courageous performer.
Over her time in the stable, Staffa amassed four hard-earned victories and just shy of $100,000 in prizemoney — a testament not only to her ability, but to her resilience and the belief placed in her.
Her crowning moment came in unforgettable fashion at Tamworth, storming home over 1200 metres to claim a Benchmark 82 on the much-celebrated Holly Williams Racing Owners Raceday. It was a performance that perfectly captured her spirit — tough, determined, and unrelenting.
More than her racetrack achievements, Staffa leaves behind a legacy built on connection. She became a favourite among the stable, a mare whose personality and presence left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
Williams paid special tribute to those closest to Staffa’s journey, acknowledging the tireless dedication behind the scenes.
“Lindy Wharekura lived and breathed with her for two years,” she said. “And Sarah Curtis somehow managed to get her around the track every single day. These girls were integral to her success.”
As Staffa transitions into the next chapter of her life, her future looks just as bright. A mare of quality and character, she is expected to leave a strong mark in the breeding barn.
“She’s a beautiful mare who will leave magnificent foals,” Williams said. “I’m really looking forward to following her next journey.”
While her racing days may be over, Staffa’s story — one of transformation, perseverance, and heart — will remain firmly etched in the fabric of Holly Williams Racing.
